Secretary‘s Report:

Welcome to first time attendees, Sonja Bailey and James from Florida, also David Croze, Gary Stubbs and Michelle.  We are so glad to have new people and old friends join us.

ELECTIONS – SHOCKING NEWS!

We were stunned as Chris Danilson conducted the nomination and voting process.  Names were placed on the board and much to our surprise, whose name should we see but Jeff Smith!  As the conversation continued, Paul Sherman volunteered for treasurer, but the committee had other plans.  Apparently they had scouted their nominees and made some calculations. Although two members were not present to decline (very clever of Chris), Chris confidently led us through the process, knowing that Jonathan Frostad would fill in if any nominee was unable to fulfill their obligation. (Although Jonathan was not present either) The vote concluded with unanimous approval from all present and we proudly announce our new officers as follows:

President:  Paul Sherman

Vice Pres:  Jeff Smith

Treasurer:  Kim Griffith

Secretary: Angie Vandenhaak

We are grateful for their willingness to take on these positions; (despite their surprise at this announcement) we know they will do a terrific job in leading the club through the coming year.  MUCH THANKS to the outgoing crew:

Wade Bessett

Jenny Baker

Jill Youde

Laurie Sherman

They have served for TWO years and done an outstanding job keeping the club’s mission alive and well in Skagit County.  We appreciate the extra effort put forth to; find club meeting locations, keep SAC info flowing with our website and newsletter, create opportunities for new members to get involved, and the general pizzazz they brought to each meeting.  The next crew has a good model to follow.

We also discussed:

ACFL - Anacortes Community Forest Lands- The board meets the first Thursday of the month at the Anacortes Senior Center at 7pm.  Apparently there is a concern regarding the bolting on Mt Erie and the board is discussing what approach to take on the many unnumbered trails and routes that are not officially part of the comprehensive forest lands plan.  IS THERE A CLIMBER, SCRAMBLER person who might be interested in attending the meetings and representing our club?

208 VOLUNTEER HOURS AT PARK BUTTE!  Wow!! Thanks to all who have helped, especially the Erbstoeszers!!   This lookout is our club’s responsibility to maintain. Without us and groups like us, many of the lookouts in Washington would not exist.

Hidden Lake Lookout – Apparently some confused individual used this lookout for an attempted suicide. The place is currently a mess and will require some repair.

Several ideas were discussed about how we might best spend the $4600 in our Treasury: a power point projector for club presentations, avalanche workshop for class instructors, payment for speakers for our monthly presentations, and a clubhouse.  In order for a decision to be made, we need a specific and well thought out idea to be presented at the meeting. The officers will take all ideas and present them for a vote at a future meeting. So here is your chance.

Mountaineering Class offered at SVC- The SAC will be offering a class this spring at Skagit Valley College. If you are interested in taking the class you can sign up at Skagit Valley College end of Feb. Or, if you would like to help with the class, speak with Rick Rodgers.

Program:

Mountains and Monasteries, Beaches and Buddhas: An eight country whirlwind tour from the tropical jungles of Southeast Asia to the remote heights of the Indian Himalaya by Jonathan Frostad.
