Community Agreements
Our club uses the following agreements to create a community where we can all feel welcome and supported. Our executive board and committees help to uphold these agreements in all of our meetings, committees, events and online spaces.
We show each other respect, and listen to ideas that are different from ours.
- We recognize that each of us come from a different background, and bring different skills and perspectives to the group.
- We can disagree on topics in a respectful way.
- We all have a voice and deserve to have our concerns and thoughts heard. We recognize that creating space for all voices helps mitigate "expert bias".
- Acceptance of political anonymity and no pressure to disclose personal or religious beliefs.
We empower and support each other.
- We know that each person's Personal Record is different, and cheer them towards their own goals (not our own).
- We create community spaces and mentorship opportunities where we can to help us grow as alpinists.
We welcome everyone into the outdoors safely.
- We communicate the expectations of trips and honor everyone else’s ability to assess and voice their risk tolerance.
- We learn to talk through everyone's personal risk tolerances.
- All people deserve to explore the outdoors, regardless of their identity.
- We consider everyone’s ability and skills and support safe travels for all.
We role model good practices and advocate for protection of our wild outdoor spaces.
- We practice and teach Leave No Trace (LNT) principles.
- We engage in community efforts to support access and protection of wild spaces.
- We support environmental advocacy efforts.
- We care for and tend to the preservation of the Park Butte lookout.
We hold ourselves and each other accountable.
- For actions that go against our community guidelines.
- For trips that don’t meet our agreed upon plans and risk tolerances.
- We communicate respectfully and directly.
We reflect, debrief and grow from our mistakes.
- For trips that may not have gone to plan.
- For group interactions that didn’t go well.
-We reflect, debrief and apologize for our actions when needed.
